- Korean Students Register For Intensive English Course At UTM

UTMSPACE and Faculty of Computer Science and Information System (FSKSM) are promoting UTM Student Exchange Program. Last year, 28 students from the Faculty of Information System, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang, Indonesia (UNSRI) enrolled in the program. On July 1, 2010 a new batch of 69 students from UNSRI registered at UTM for semester I 2010/2011. As part of the orientation and cultural familiarization program, the students participated in homestay program and spent a few days at Kampong Sejagong, Sri Medan, Batu Pahat. They stayed with the host family and involved in various cultural activities and traditional games
UTM has launched its first Summer School Program in June 2010. The program has a wide-application related to the environment, local community, heritage and tradition. It incorporates theory, practice and blended with the local culture, social and economic activities. The three-week summer program offers 13 interesting courses. UTMSPACE is the event manager for the program. In June and July, there were 9 courses conducted with 183 participants from Australia, China, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, Somalia, South Korea and Yemen. The courses conducted are as follows:
Sustainable Production: Improving Eco-efficiency. Denmark Technological University (DTU) –UTM Institute of Environmental and Water Resource Management (IPASA).

The courses are conducted in a stress free environment with a combination of theoretical knowledge, hands on activities and field visits. They visited Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor Bahru and Singapore. Some of them had the opportunity to stay with the Malay family at Kampong Sejagong, Seri Medan, Batu Pahat and experienced the Malay culture. Other participants climbed Mount Ophir (Gunung Ledang) and spent a few nights at the Endau Rompin National Park

UTM SPACE, through its international activities, has successfully recruited 81 students to enroll in Intensive English Course (IEC) at UTM for semester I 2010/2011. They came from various universities in Korea and this is the first group of Korean students in UTM. In UTM, the Korean students are able to joined Malaysian and international students to speed up their learning process and learn various cultures. The course is conducted by English and Preparatory Program Unit of UTM SPACE
UTMSPACE ATTENDING DIES NATALIS UNIVERSITAS MARITIM RAJA ALI HAJI,TANJUNG PINANG, INDONESIA
Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH) celebrated its 3 rd anniversary and inaugural convocation on August 2, 2010. UTM SPACE , represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim bin Abdul Raof and En Zulkifli bin Osman, attended the ceremony. UMRAH is in the process of being one of the public universities in Indonesia. Currently, it has 4,632 students who enroll in 9 programs. UMRAH had participated in UTM student exchange program. In June 2010, 8 students took part in UTM Summer School – Leadership & Teambuilding
UNSRI STUDENTS RECEIVED 'UTM STUDENT MOBILITY PROGRAM'CERTIFICATE
All 28 students from Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI), Palembang has successfully participated in UTM Student Mobility Program for a semester from 17 June until 13 November 2009. They were enrolled at Faculty of Computer Science and Information System (FSKSM), UTM.
A special farewell ceremony was held at De' Tropika Café, UTM on 03 November 2009. Associate Professor Ir Fatimah Mohd Noor delivered the welcoming speech. She thanked the students for choosing UTM, encouraged them to work hard and welcomes them to UTM for their Masters or PhD. She also expressed UTMSPACE gratitude to FSKSM for choosing UTMSPACE to manage the program.
According to UNSRI students' representative, Arsendi, the students are very happy and grateful for the kindness and hospitality of UTM and . They will miss UTM and the Malaysian experience. The lecturers are friendly and helpful. They really enjoyed the program.
Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Shafie Abd Latiff, Deputy Dean (Academic), FSKSM presented the certificates and souvenirs to the students.
UTMSPACE STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN UTM GLOBAL OUTREACH PROGRAM TO JAKARTA
On 06-10 October 2009, 19 UTMSPACE students of the Bachelor of (Management) program offered by the Faculty of Management and Human Resource, UTM went to Jakarta for an industrial visit under the UTM Global Outreach Program. The industrial visit program is part of the research project for the 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students. The group was supervised by En Ahmad Sharifuddin bin Shamsuddin. The program was partly sponsored by UTMSPACE . The main objectives are to allow the students to learn and explore the subject of marketing and branding in a different cultural environment, to relate and apply what they had studied in a real situation and to effectively communicate and improve team spirit among group members.
The students were involved in a seminar, dialog and discussion with lecturers and students from Universitas Persada Indonesia – YAI. They also visited Museum Keramik, Museum Fatahilah, Tugu Monument Nasional (MONAS), ITC Cempaka, Senayan City, ITC Mangga 2, Bandung Factory outlets and Pasar Baru.
Habibah Othman, one of the program participant, commented that “ The global outreach program to Indonesia had opens my mind towards their culture, lifestyle, economic and politic. I have a better understanding on marketing and branding through knowledge transferred between UTMSPACE students and Universitas Persada’s. The visit also strengthens the working relationships between participating students and the most important is I have been able to apply the relevant knowledge gain in my daily life.”
UTMSPACE in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science and Information System, UTM has engaged in promoting the UTM Student Mobility Program. There were 28 students from the Faculty of Information System, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang, Indonesia enrolled in the program. They arrived on 17 June 2009 and will be in UTM for a semester. The students had participated in UTMSPACE mini summer course. They spent a few days at Endau Rompin National Park, Selai and studied the flora and fauna and experienced the jungle’s life. They also stayed with their host family at Kampong Sejagong, Sri Medan, Batu Pahat through homestay program. They participated in various cultural activities such as wedding ceremony, ‘Hari Raya Sekampong’, ‘Kuda Kepang’ dance and traditional games. The students wre involved in community services such as repairing old folk home and cleaning school compound together with the local villagers.
